New Beauty TestTube May 2015 Review and 30% Off!

New Beauty Test Tube is one of my more interesting beauty subscription boxes. that’s not to say that it doesn’t have it’s faults because it definitely does. However, I’m finding that New Beauty tends to snag samples and full size products that don’t turn up in other subscription boxes. Ever. Or at least in any that I get.

I’m finding that this box seems to be geared more toward those with an interest in skincare and/or mature skin. I say that way because I think you should be caring about skincare big time by age 25 but the Tube tends to lean toward anti-aging skin care, etc.

It’s delivered bi-monthly and really does come in a tube! It’s pretty fun packaging (and useful, too). Included is a information booklet describing all the benefits of what has been included. New Beauty definitely gets brownie points from me for the detail.

The Cost: $29.95/bi-monthly plus $8.95 shipping.  Get 30% off with this lin!

What You Get: You will receive a TestTube filled with deluxe and full-size products from the hottest beauty brands. Members will also receive a subscription to NewBeauty magazine, delivered quarterly.

Hada Labo Replenishing Hydrator– This is a clear serum that should be used after your toner and before your moisturizer. It contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid which is a great moisturizer and one of my favorites. It’s very light and can apparently be used over your makeup but I don’t think I would do that. This is the perfect kind of moisturizer to top with an oil based moisturizer because that oil will provide a barrier, trapping all that lovely, hydration sodium hyaluronate underneath in your skin. I haven’t opened this because I SERIOUSLY need to get to the bottom of some other moisturizers before I open another one. I’m a little out of control.
Value: $17

Glo Theraputics Gentle Cream Cleanser-This is a cleanser for sensitive skin with sea buckthorn and desert date. I actually like sea buckthorn for my skin so I’m saving this. Just gotta use up my other cleanser first.
Value: $5

Patchology Hydrate FlashMasque Sheets– Ohhh… I love sheet masks but I especially love sheet masks with good ingredients. As my mask collection has grown, I’ve gotten more and more picky about which ones I will use. Anything with alcohol? Gone. You’d be surprised at how many companies think that you really want to let alcohol come in contact with your face for long periods. No. Not my thing. Especially when you can get masks like this. Ones with great ingredients that really hydrate and won’t irritate. I’m wearing mine right now. You only need to wear it for 5 minutes but I might leave it on longer. And slather the rest of the juice on my neck and decolletage. This mask is exceedingly juicetastic and why shouldn’t the rest of me get some hydration?
Value: $6

Dr. Brandt Needles No More– Now, I was very curious about this. So I looked up the ingredients. And then looked up what they meant. And I’m still confused. So the first ingredient (after water) is a hydrocarbon. In fact, it’s apparently so oxygenated that you can be submerged in it and breathe?! I don’t even know. The second ingredient is shea butter. Whew, that’s normal. The third? I still have no idea what it is.
So, I read their statistics- 90% felt they had fewer lines and wrinkles and so on. However, it appears that study was done by 25 participants and was self-reported. Which basically means that it’s as biased as all get out. Rain. Parade. Etc.  Aww…
However, if you want to try this, don’t listen to me, just do it. I can’t use this because (wonder of wonders) it has lavender in it. SO UNNECCESSARY! Stop with the random lavender inclusion, people! Ugh. There’s no benefit at all! Of course, I’m biased because of my allergy so…
Value: $20

Tan Towel Combo Pack– Tan Towel also has been in my Test Tube before but this is a Combo Pack with both Classic and Plus tan towelettes, a Face tan towelette and an X-foliator towelette. Apparently MizzFit swears by these (along with many, many others) and they work with a clear tanning formula that combines with your natural skin chemistry to produce a realistic, non-orangey tan. Personally, with the fear of being orange so prevalent, I think I would have picked a different color for my boxes and logo. 😛 If I wasn’t so freaking pasty, I’d probably use something like this but I have a fear of missing spots and then my true ghost whiteness would shine through and ruin the effect. /sigh
Value: $12

Contours Rx Lids by Design Instant Eyelid Lift– See, this is what I’m talking about when I saw this is geared toward adult women. These are little sticky strips that you apply to your eyelid skin to “lift” your droopy lids. Here’s a video that shows you how it works (I think it starts playing automatically so dont clickie if you’re in a meeting).
After watching the video, I’m totally thinking I need to try this. The thing is that it’s so weird. I mean, it probably doesn’t work as well as I would want it to and it’s probably noticeable. But I should experiment, I think.
Value: $30

It’s a 10 Silk Express Miracle Silk Leave-In-2oz- This is a leave in conditioner with hydrolyzed silk protein. It’s supposed to make your hair stronger, longer, shinier and more manageable. This brand has popped up more than once in my NBTT boxes but this is a new product. I personally am not big on hair stuff so this will be passed along to someone more likely to use it. It’s a well-respected brand and a good product but I’m totally n00b when it comes to hair.
Value:$15

VERDICT: The drawback to the New Beauty Test Tube is that certain brands tend to pop up fairly regularly. In a bi-monthly box, that’s not really what you want. However, I’ve been subscribed for a year now and while some things have been similar, I have not actually ever received an identical product. The good thing is that the product are genuinely interesting, quality and decent sizes.
It’s also expensive at nearly $40 with shipping.
It’s still a good value, I won’t deny that, but again, this is not really a box for a teen girl. With things like botox substitute and patches for saggy eyelids this is for people who want to fend off aging with a big stick. People like me! I guess I don’t mind getting older but my attitude toward certain things have changed as my wrinkles start appearing. Now I’m like… Hmm… Botox? But I think I’m too chicken to actually do it.
Anyway, I like the New Beauty Test Tube but I wish it was cheaper. Luckily, they offer coupons fairly regularly so you can try it out for a discount!

If you want to sign up for New Beauty Test Tube, you can use my referral link to get 30% off. It’s always better with a discount. You still have to pay shipping so it comes out to just under $30.
