Loot Crate April 2015 Fantasy Crate Review and Coupon Code

Loot Crate is one of my favorite geek and gamer boxes. The theme this month was Fantasy and there was no way I was going to miss that! I adore reading fantasy, playing fantasy games (Final Fantasy, anyone?) and while I’ve never actually been truly nerdy enough to play tabletop Dungeons & Dragons, I know plenty of people who have earned that label. Unless watching counts… maybe I get half nerd cred for watching tabletop games?
Anyway, Loot Crate is a subscription box dedicated to the truly nerdy (or is it geeky? or both? Or maybe the real descriptor is AWESOME? Yes, I like that better). Loot Crate is a box dedicated to the truly AWESOME people out there who like to indulge in comic books, video games and everything surrounding them.

The Cost: $19.95/month, including the shipping.

What You Get: Awesome gamer/geek loot! Sometimes T-shirts (like this month!) Plenty of comment inducing collectibles to surround your computer desk with, all delivered right to your door.

Dungeons & Dragons T shirt– So this was appropriated immediately. My husbands biggest gripe is that I always take the box, open it, rifle through it, take pictures then toss it all back in so by the time he gets it, it’s not like it’s his. And since it’s technically supposed to be “his” (we all know whose it really is, don’t we) I decided that this time I would let him open it first. And now I know why I don’t let him do that any more. Because the shirt is gone by the time I finally get to take pictures. So this picture is a picture of a picture in the Loot Crate mini mag. That’s not my husband. This is a licensed T-shirt, too, which is pretty nice.

Harry Potter Luggage Tag– I admit to reading the first four (or was it five…) Harry Potter books. Then I just watched the movies instead. The first two books were amazing. The third was okay. The fourth was boring and the fifth excruciating. Hence watching the movies instead. I’m a little on the old side for both the books and movies so while I enjoyed them (for the most part), I’m not fangirl enough to want a HP luggage tag.
Value: $10

RPG Bow Tie– This is a silly bowtie with the D&D dragon and the 20 sided die. Apparently girls are supposed to wear this in their hair. Maybe I’m not nerdy enough for this? Would Felicia Day wear this? I don’t think so.

Game of Thrones USB Flash Drive– It’s the House of Stark grey direwolf sigil. Do you know how hard I cried when Lady was killed in the books? Hard. Tears everywhere. I quit reading the books after the third one because I was left in misery after each one. I didn’t want to read something that left me in a soggy puddle of depression for days afterward. Could he at least have left ONE (okay, make that two since Arya was alive) of the good guys alive for a whole book!? Ugh. Apparently the show deviates from the books and that might make it more bearable.
Right, flash drive. 4GB of memory, shaped like a wolf head. 😀

Inflatable Crown– I *do* however, love the blow up crown! I put this to good use right away. Totally keeping this for whatever reason. Any reason. I’ll find one. I’ll wear it to bed or something. Or not. That whole “wizard hat” thing just popped into my mind.
Value: $7

Game of Thrones Magnet Set– I feel I should cut up the Lannister magnet in a rage. They ruin everything. Ugh.

The Princess Bride Playing Cards– I love The Princess Bride. It was the first DVD I ever bought. It’s a classic. Every kid should watch it. Right along with the real Star Wars. Which, btw… umm… Episode VII trailer anyone?! I seriously got the chills. I can’t wait.

Also the artwork isn’t to great on this cards. I’m not sure where Buttercup’s neck went…
Value: $10

VERDICT: This was a great crate! The t-shirt was a big hit with DH so it basically makes the crate worth it just for that. Sure some of this is silly but I’m okay with it because there’s enough good stuff to pull it through. I’m trying a bunch of new “geek” boxes so we’ll see which one comes out on top. For price, Loot Crate is gonna win because it’s the most affordable. But we will see!

If you want to sign up for Loot Crate, you can do that here. Make sure to use coupon code SAVE3 to get $3 off your crate.
