Stick in a Box is a beef jerky subscription box and it’s totally awesome if you’re looking for something more fun and adventurous than the Oberto you see at the store. You never know when you’ll find “the one” but Stick in a Box helps you play the field until it happens.
This box contained “the one.” Or actually, in our case, probably “the third” but who’s counting. Finding new delicious jerkys is definitely the beauty of this box.
The Cost: $35/month
What You Get: At least 3 bags of jerky plus sticks and slabs from both name brands, and small batch companies, in traditional and out of this world flavors.
Old World Meats Beef Snack Sticks in Buffalo, Original and Hot- We’ve received this brand of beef stick before and they’re tasty. They are a little dry which I prefer and taste great. Walker ate both the Hot and Buffalo and said they were good. We don’t have this brand around here so it’s nice to get it.
Value: $6 total
Just Mike’s Jerky Co. Garlic Beef Jerky- This was sooo good! I like thicker beef jerky and this was moist and flavorful. I’m not sure how great my breath was after eating this but I really enjoyed it. I claimed this bag as my own and only shared one piece with my husband. Don’t worry, he got plenty of other stuff. I wish I could get it around here because it’s ridiculously well priced.
Value: $3.99
Black Jack Beef Jerky- This is thin cut and quite dry and it’s got worchestershire sauce in it. You can really taste it, too. It’s strangely addicting. At first I thought I didn’t like it but the flavor grew on me and made it difficult to share. I did, though.
Value: $5
Just Mikes Jerky Co. Sweet & Hot Beef Jerky- Well, sorry for the blurry photo but this jerky is already gone and so I can’t retake it! This was “the one” beef jerky for my husband in this box. Walker said this was the best beef jerky he’s ever had. And by now he’s had a lot of beef jerky. It was apparently so good he “wanted to marry it” but I’m not really down with polygamy. I didn’t eat any of it because I don’t do spicy very well. He said it was spicy (which means it was) and he wanted to know how to get more. Just Mikes doesn’t have a website yet but they should in two weeks and then we will be able to order some.
Value: $3.99
Divine Bovine Beef Jerky in Original- This brand has appeared before in a Stick in a Box but not this flavor. According to their website, this flavor has a mild blend of savory spices and “Pop’s” unique recipe, a hint of garlic and finished with a light topping of black pepper. I didn’t really care for it, though it is my favorite style. I like the thicker cuts as they tend to be more moist.
Value: $8
VERDICT: We loved getting and enjoying the Just Mikes jerky. Stick in a Box is a good way to find great beef jerkies. However I do find that this month the value is under what a subscriber pays for the box. If value is less of a consideration for you than getting good jerkies you likely haven’t had before then that won’t bother you. I like to get at least what I’ve paid for. My husband, on the other hand, doesn’t care as long as he gets beef jerky. Hah! I tried to save some for our plane trip but…
The beef jerky never lasts long around here.
The awesome news is that you can get your first box for only $15 with coupon code BFF! So really, there’s no reason not to try it. Unless you hate beef jerky, of course. Sign up here!
