I was sure that my Memebox Skincare Elixirs was at the bottom of the ocean somewhere. The tracking refused to update and it took nearly six weeks to find it’s way to my door. Many of you have probably received your boxes and tried all your products! Lucky! I’m still excited about this box. Skincare Elixirs is one of the more interesting boxes I’ve received lately. I’ve been intrigued by the Syn-Ake phenomenon for awhile now and I’m anxious to try these two new-to-me products.
Shara Shara Green Oasis Lifting Eye Cream– This uses a combination of adenosine, ferments and seed oils to firm and smooth the skin of your eye area while creating a moisture barrier for ultimate hydration.
I will say that adenosine will help with dark circles, though it’s not as good as niacinamide at that effect. Fermented ingredients are quite gentle and the jojoba seed oil and beeswax will create a barrier from the wind and the dryness it brings.
Eye creams are not something I use much of and when I do, I pick the tiniest sample because I know it will get outdated before I finish it. I did read that you can use eye creams anywhere you want (not just your eyes) so this could reasonably be used as a regular moisturizer.
Value: $20
Neogen Code9 Pore Tightening Aqua Cream– Ah, Neogen again! Now, you and I know that there is no such thing as pore tightening. You have pores and I have pores and the size they are is the size they will be forever. The only thing you can do is mask them if they’re large and thank your genetics if they’re small.
Since we know this can’t do what its label claims it can, it must have some other benefits.
It contains Canadian glacier water, baobab extract and hyaluronic acid. It also has denatured alcohol which can be an irritant for many people and is not a desired ingredient at all. I don’t know if the hyaluronic acid can combat the effects of the alcohol. It’s just not an ideal ingredient in something you smear all over your face. We’ll see if I try it or not.
Value: $44
Tosowoong Syn-Ake Whitening Mist Treatment-100ml-Syn-ake is a synthetic peptide form of snake venom. My dad would laugh because he always says that most cosmetics are just snake oil- promising everything and delivering none of it. However, this also has EGF (a skin identical ogliopeptide), galactomyces and bifida ferments. Even better, it has niacinamide high on the list to brighten the skin and fade dark spots.
Here’s the ingredient list:
Not bad at all. I’ll definitely be using this. It suggests it should be used as a toner.
Value: $10
Tosowoong Syn-Ake Wrinkle Free Treatment Lotion-100ml-Firm up your skin with a healthy moisture and oil balance with this wrinkle care lotion. This also has syn-ake, EGF, galactomyces and bifida ferments. This is good for sensitive, dry skin.
This isn’t really anything that’s going to get rid of your wrinkles but you will get soft, smooth, bright, moisturized skin. I’d like that! I’ll have to use this, too, although I’m more excited about the mist.
Here’s the ingredient list:
Value: $10
ProYou Magic Silky Shiny Skin Essence-50ml- A lightweight facial essence suitable for all skin types. There’s a combination of peptides, adenosine, niacinamide and EGF as well as hyaluronic acid, panthenol (vitamin B), and many different plant derived antioxidants.
The third ingredient is sodium hyaluronate so you are going to get some moisture packed skin using this. That’s going to help plump up any fine lines and wrinkles so that you can’t see them. The niacinamide is going to work on any dark or discolored spots to restore an even skintone and brightness.
Plus there’s nothing bad in it according to COSDNA! I think I’d rather use this over the Neogen any day.
Value: $34
VERDICT: I can’t lie. I’m *really* happy with this Memebox. The three products I love are the ProYou, and the two Tosowoong Synake products and they’re worth double the box price to begin with. So even if I don’t use the Neogen or the Shara Shara Eye Cream (which make up another $60), I’m still coming out on top. And with beeeyouuutiful skin.
From a diversity standpoint, having two Tosowoong products that are nearly identical isn’t a good move in any box curation. At least there’s an eye cream to go along with the gel toner, essence, mist toner and moisturizer.
I think that if you took this box and the Cleanse and Tone box and sort of juggled all the products together, you would come up with two really good boxes between them, instead of two somewhat lopsidedly curated themes. Luckily I got both boxes so I can do that and pretend they were both perfect….
If you’d like to see what’s going on at Memebox box-wise right now, head here on their website. I think they have five boxes currently available and are always running new sales with free shipping.
Friends don’t let friends pay more than they have to so make SURE you use a coupon when you make a purchase! The newest coupon for January 2015 is a $3 off $30 code: YKF26P
And remember, any purchase over $100 will receive an automatic $5 off ($150 will get $10 off) by using any link in this post.
I know, I know, it’s not as good as before but it’s better than nothing. I don’t pretend to know what is going through Memebox’ head at any point in time.
