Boxycharm November 2014 Sparkle and Shine Review

Boxycharm is probably my best makeup subscription right now.  The November 2014 Boxycharm box has some really fun and some really practical makeup items in it and I am liking it more and more as I use the items.

The Cost: $21/month.

What You Get: Full size and luxury size beauty samples of the best beauty products from popular and chic brands. Anything from nail care and hair products to the top skin care and cosmetics.

Ofra Cosmetics Pressed Blush in Paradise Pink–  This blush can be used wet or dry and provides a really great pink shade to my cheeks.  I think it may be more shimmery than I would like but I’ll have to test that out in a few more kinds of light.  Also, I just discovered that underneath the blush is a mirror!  There were three variations of this blush but they all revolved around the color of the compact.  Mine, obviously, is black but there were also white and clear available.
Value: $24.95
Mica Beauty Eye Primer– This is a waterproof primer that provides the perfect foundation for a long-lasting, smudge proof look.  It also helps intensify mineral eyeshadows and works to prevent creasing, smearing and fading.
I have a primer I really like right now but what I didn’t realize was that it has some hardcore shimmer. I don’t pretend to be a makeup pro and eyelid primers were new to me.  So while I absolutely adore the formulation of that eyelid primer and while it looks absolutely spectacular with shimmer eyeshadows, I’ve been wanting one that isn’t shimmery to work with.  And here is one! Yay!
I do have to mention that I cannot believe this primer is $44!  Maybe it’s just me but there’s no way in hell I’d pay that much for a little pot of primer!
Value: $44
Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Liner in Pearl Mist– Okay, so when I first saw the spoiler for this, I have to admit that what I got was not what I was expecting.  I’m thinking a glitter liner would be a pencil with glitter in it or something.  No.  This is a liquid eyeliner with a brush applicator.  And it is my new favorite thing.  I did not expect to like this as much as I do.  It is pure shimmer.  It seems to be pretty pinkish but maybe that’s just how my lights reflect off the sparkles.
Value: $16

Bellapierre Shimmer Powder– This is a 100% pure mineral powder.  The color I got is…  not awesome.  The color is got is Reluctance.  And I am quite reluctant to use it so the name is very appropriate.  It’s a greenishy-goldishy color with major sparkles.  I mean, maybe I should try it instead of groaning every time I get a barf colored shadow?  Why can’t they send pinks and nice rosy browns or something?  This is the third weird green I’ve gotten (not from Boxycharm, just in general), maybe it’s a sign and I need to start using them.
Value: $14
Kevin Murphy ColorBug in Purple– I saved the best for last!  Okay, maybe not the best but certainly the most fun.  I wish I’d had this for Halloween.  So what you do is spray your hair with hairspray (in sections, not all at once) and then rub this on the hair that you just sprayed.
It works!  And it’s actually awesome!  Now, I have brown hair and the purple worked pretty great. It turned out more lavendery than bright purple.  I just put one streak in to see how it looked.
It was a little hard to get the purple right up to my partline without getting it on the hairs next to it.  I think next time I would use a swathe as wide as the Colorbug itself in order to prevent that.  This picture is not very good but you can definitely see that it changed the color of my hair.
Now I want the Shimmer one!

VERDICT:  This Boxycharm was a lot of fun!!  And four out of five items will be used by yours truly so that makes this a really great box for me.  Boxycharm has really stepped it up in the last few months.  Not all boxes are going to be amazing for everyone.  Sometimes I love a box everyone else seems to hate or vice versa.  Still, it’s a lot of fun and it’s a good way to stock up on little gifts when you need them.

If you would like to sign up for Boxycharm, you can do that right here!  It seems like there has been a waitlist in recent months but most everyone appears to be getting off of it for the next box, if not the one from the current month.  So if you sign up now and aren’t on a waitlist, you’ll get this exact box!
