I have to admit I’ve never really considered a “Time of the Month” subscription but after this first one from Avalai, I have to admit there is a definite attraction. If you’d rather have your necessities sent to you instead of asking your significant other to stand in front of a wall of product, embarrassing himself or picking up the jumbo pack for yourself, this is the way to go.
First, I think I’d have to say this is probably the most perfect thing ever for a young girl. While I don’t know that the timing can be perfect, it’s still a pretty fun way to acknowledge the inevitable.
Avalai uses Always pads and Tampax tampons and they will be sent in proportion to your request. Only want one or the other? Easy. Some of each? Also easy. For the purposes of this review, I requested some of each to get an idea of what might be sent. I’m impressed.
The Cost: $14/month plus shipping
What You Get: All boxes contain a generous amount of Tampons, Pads, Party-liners, and a pack of wipes. You will also receive BLUME Products of the Month and a custom holder in your first month.
Your first box will contain one of these adorable pink and white chevron pockets for your pads and tampons. It’s super cute and has a little velcro closure. If you look at the top photo of the entire box, you can see what it looks like closed. The Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies are snacktastic. I love these so much. They’re in this first photo because I wanted to eat them immediately. Haha! I’m so bad.
Oh, am I starting with all the good stuff? This box is not just about supplying you with pads and tampons but also with tasty snacks to tide you over. Besides the Famous Amos cookies, there’s a Rice Krispie treat, two squares of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate (one has cranberries and blueberries in it) and five tea bags. I do have to appreciate that two of the teas contain ginger for upset stomachs. I can’t be the only one that drinks gallons of peppermint tea for three days out of the month…
The basics! Six Always pads, 6 Tampax tampons and 15 (or so) pantiliners. I’m happy to see that these are not giant diapers. Let’s be honest, I don’t like squeaking when I walk.
As a kid, I didn’t know any better and I was stuck with what my mom bought me but once I got old enough to realize there was such a thing as Ultra Thin? It was like the skies opened up and a ray of sunshine hit me while standing in that “feminine hygiene” aisle. Never do that to your child, please. Don’t make them wear old granny, huge maxi pads. Maybe my mom was strange, I don’t know. I’ve only ever had one mom and she loved those gigantic, fat ones that were as long as my arm. TMI? Definitely. I hope she doesn’t read this! 😀
On to the awesome! I love Cottonelle wipes but I never think about buying them when I’m at the store unless I actually see them when I’m walking down an aisle. They’re not something I write on my list but maybe I should start doing that.
Blume is Avalai’s bath and body care division. Each month you’ll receive some handmade goodie designed to help you splurge a little. This month it’s a Coconut Mango Solid Body Lotion and it smells mouth-wateringly delicious. This is actually only the second hydration bar I’ve used and I really like them. After you shower, before you dry off completely, run this over your skin and massage in the lotiony goodness. You won’t be slimy, I promise. You’ll be moisturized.
Also included this month is the Blume Citrus Kiss Lip Balm made with coconut oil. It’s a slightly firm lip gloss and I love the smell. It’s not sticky in the slightest and my lips are SO dry, they definitely needed this.
VERDICT: It’s hard to put a monetary value on this but I’m going to say it’s absolutely worth it. For $14 plus shipping? Yes. I think for me that puts this box at $21 and it’s still worth it for me. If I had a daughter, I would do something like this for her in a heartbeat. It completely eliminates any awkwardness. Maybe a brother would tease and say something when the box arrived but still.
And for myself, yes. I may be out of the target demographic (if there is one) but this is so easy! I absolutely love all the extras that are included. It makes it a surprise every month instead of a boring “Oh, I guess it’s that time of the month.” No, I’ll be wanting to know what is inside!
If you’d like to sign up for Avalai, you can do that right here. You’ll answer three questions and the boxes ship the first and third Friday of the month and you get to choose which day you prefer. Use code SPRING15 for 15% off your first box.
And if you are interested, Avalai is also running a giveaway that you can enter here to win a box of your own! Three winners will be chosen so the odds are not too bad!
