Barkbox July 2014 Review- Surf’s Up, Pups!

Barkbox came today!  It was perfect timing because I had just finished all our treats yesterday.  I didn’t buy any new ones because I knew Barkbox was going to be arriving soon.  I am glad I didn’t because what we were sent is awesome!

The theme for this month is Surf’s up, Pups! (If I was doing it, I think I would have called it Surf’s Pup but I probably have more time on my hands to think about these kinds of things).  This box was a BIG hit!

The Cost: $29/month to $19/month with 6 month subscription (use this referral link to get 10% off any length subscription and save even more!)

What You Get:  Every month you will receive a box in the mail with four or more carefully selected products and presents for your dog – anything from toys, bones and all-natural treats to hygiene products and innovative new gadgets!

Life’s a beach with this box.  We got two toys and three treats!  First up is the toys!

P.L.A.Y. Crab Toy– an eco-friendly plush toy with a double layer exterior and inverse cross-stitched joints for durability.  It also has a squeaker.  You can also throw it in the washer if it gets dirty.  I’m sitting here at the computer after having opened this box and I wondered what happened to the crab.  I found it…
Value: $14

Bugsy was out cold after playing hard with his new toys.  When he takes a toy to bed with him, it means it will last a long time.  He won’t shred it or rip out the squeaker if he loves it enough to bring it to bed.

Loopies Corduroy Whale Toy– Plush squeaky whale.  I’m not sure how long this toy will last but when I put the box on the ground to try and get a photo of the box with the dogs, Bugsy opened the box with his nose (I had cut the tape), scrabbled around, grabbed this whale and ran off.  Needless to say, I didn’t get any pictures of the dogs with the open box.  I *did* get a picture of Bugsy with his whale, though.

Value: $10

Isn’t he cute?!  Dexter is way too skittish to do this kind of thing.  Bugsy will do ANYTHING for a treat.
Speaking of treats! Check these out…

Think! Dog Louisiana Crab Jerky with Alligator–  Yes, alligator is actually the first ingredient!!  Can you believe it?!  Theres no wheat, corn or soy and more importantly there is no chicken!  That means Dexter can have some.
Let me just say these are POTENT smelling.  I opened the package and both dogs came running from across the room.  They are nice sized training treats.  They’re a little squishy, not hard and crunchy.
I got the Barkbox and managed to get Dexter a little close to it so I could take a picture.  He’s totally focused on the alligator-crab treat.
Value: $7
Mr. Barksmith’s Cool Treat Pina Colada Smoothie– I put this in the freezer for Dexter for later.  It’s got no chicken in it so he gets it.  This is the second Smoothie we’ve received from Barkbox and I really like them.  When frozen, they keep the dogs attention really well.  I wish I could find them for sale at a store near me.
Value: $2

Dexter doesn’t really like the box.  And he’s not sitting very nice because he always slides around on the hardwood.  But he’s my first dogbaby and I love him even with all his quirks.

PetSafe Indigo Triple Chews– Grain free, teeth cleaning chews with a probiotic inner core.  These are blue because of all the blueberries they are made with in order to provide antioxidants.  These are hefty little bones.  It took Bugsy a good 8 minutes to eat it.  Dexter can’t have any because they have chicken.  We’ve just been discussing whether to take the dogs in for a teeth cleaning.  I don’t know if these will actually do any good but we will find out!  There were six bones inside.
Value: $10

VERDICT:  I really love Barkbox.  The dogs love the new toys and I like the variety that is sent.  All of the toys that I’ve been sent have been used.  Some of them have been very well-loved.  I would never buy some of these toys even if I saw them in the stores and I’m a little sad because I’ve missed out on giving my dogs toys they would have loved.  But its okay!  I have Barkbox now and they have sent consistently awesome toys for the boys.  I can also guarantee you that I never would have bought alligator treats.  Ever.  And they love them!  The dental bones are perfect and something I’ve been thinking about getting.  It’s nice to save a trip to the store just by having Barkbox delivered!

I got this box for a super good deal using a coupon code.  I can’t remember which one but I think it made my boxes around $17/month.  The value for this month is $43!  (Although I would never pay $10 for a stuffed whale.  That value might be pushing it).  Dog toys can be ridiculously expensive, though, so who knows.  This was a great box for me.

If you would like to sign up for Barkbox, the normal month to month price for Barkbox is $29.  If you sign up for longer, you can get it for $19/month.  Even better, you can use my referral code to get 10% off any subscription length and get an even better deal.
